Weill Cornell Medicine invites applications for an Instructor in the Master of Science in Health Sciences for Physician Assistant Program. About the Program
Weill Cornell Medicine, Master of Science in Health Sciences for Physician Assistant Program is 27-months, 11.5 months preclinical coursework and 15.5 months of clinical training. The program is approved by the ARC-PA for 52 students per cohort.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Program Director, the Instructor of Physician Assistant Studies will have responsibilities in all program phases of the PA curriculum, including the preclinical, clinical, and research phases in collaboration with the Preclinical, Clinical and Research Leads. This includes, but is not limited, to didactic course instruction, preparation of examinations, small group instructions, participation in end-of-rotation meetings, clinical site visits, student advisement, research mentoring, working with students on their professional development, and preparing students to practice as Physician Assistants upon graduation. In addition, responsibilities will include providing administrative support to the PA program as determined by the Director including, but not limited to, campus-wide educational activities, institutional and program committee participation, accreditation activities, review of preclinical curriculum, admissions, and outreach and recruitment. This role requires in-person attendance at our office and is not a remote position.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching in the preclinical curriculum
- Course coordinator for at least one preclinical course
- Academic counseling of preclinical and clinical students
- Serve as research mentor
- Attend site visits for clinical students
- Grading in preclinical and clinical year (History and Physicals, OSCEs, Technical Skills testing)
- Clinical practice is preferred—(outside clinical practice is encouraged and must be in compliance with the Cornell University Conflicts Policy and the Academic Policies/Responsibilities on Consulting (Attachment B of the Conflicts Policy)
Requirements
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
- Doctorate preferred, Master’s Degree is required
- Successful candidates without a terminal degree are expected to pursue doctoral studies within one year of hiring
- PA education experience is preferred but would consider candidates with less experience and a strong commitment to PA education
- A strong record of teaching, scholarly output, and experience in program development and evaluation preferred
- Eligible for Weill Cornell Faculty Appointment at the level of Instructor or above
- If a Physician Assistant, must be eligible for PA licensure in New York and currently certified by the NCCPA
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and critical thinking skills
- Proficiency in written and verbal communication
- Ability to travel locally and out of state for clinical site visits and regional/national meetings
